I have heard from numerous writers over the years that writing is easy, it’s the re-writing that is the killer. But of course at the time, I hadn’t written anything worthwhile myself and I dreamed of the luxury of the re-write.
Well they were true. I got feedback from my tutor (the ‘one with the Oscar’ – did I mention that before 🙂 ) and she said I need to develop te subplot some more, insert the male protagonist into a few scenes ‘at home in Galway’ to add depth to his character, and introduce Geraldine’s mother. Nuala (Ger’s BF) needs to have a few scenes to herself.
So today I got the new ink cartridge, new A4 paper and printed out the 90 pages – one page per minute. I read the whole script again wondering where to insert the Nuala scenes and Thomas scenes. Funny thing is, it’s a while since I read the whole thing in one sitting and I was surprised at some of the twists and turns in the story – but then I realised I wrote it!!! Goldfish memory.
So I have the positive belief that I can get the scenes inserted and with a thorough editing I will be able to email and submit later on today.
You have no idea how far I have come in the last 20 months. Sometimes it takes a big project to make you realise how far you have come. My god it is a tonic after the budget woes this week – so thank god I have a pleasant exercise this evening.
Off to buy my lotto ticket now and hoping for my third win! Won a DVD competition, won €25 on Winning Streak scratch card, so now all I need are some positive vibes from you and a wee modest win on the lotto.
