After a long long journey, Robert is healthy and will be back at work on Monday 19th November. From 10/10/2010 from a 90% chance of a fatal stroke, from failed stents, from heart monitors, and waiting lists of almost 12 months – Robert has perservered and he is now healthy. But I think it is no co-incidence that its my Dear Dad’s birthday on the day he returns to work.
Robert has been extremly lucky that his employer www.ifa.ie have kept his job open for him. They have been extremly compassionate and understanding throughout the whole episode. We had braced ourselves that due to the lengthy period of illness that he could be let go. He was still on his probationary period when he went off ill, so we were preparing ourselves for what seemed like inevitable.
But god bless the Irish Farmers Association, they have kept in touch, offered words of encouragement and when Robert spoke with his boss yesterday she was truly delighted that he is able to return to work.
He will be eased in with two weeks of half days and can take the afternoons as holidays, which is just the perfect re-introduction to work.
We couldn’t have hoped for such a positive outcome – and yet here it is. Hope lives on.
