As I relaxed and day dreamed about my new life with my two delightful leather sofa’s I just had one small detail to arrange – someone to pick them up. So our friend Keith said he knew a man with a van and it was arranged to meet at the apartment to pick up the sofas.
Simple enough you would think? Well after they ‘cased the joint’ where they all sat outside in the van waiting for the seller to come home – she was inside waiting on a call from them – Laurel and Hardy anyone?
The sofas were moved down in the lift and into the back of the van. All going well. They arrived at Chez Mitchello at 9pm last night, and me and Charlie waited excitedly to see the sofas transform our living room. We waited and we waited – the back door of the van was jammed apparently, they might need something to lever it out and then reach in and open it. That didn’t work. They then needed a ladder to reach the top of the van door and release it there. That didn’t work. They then got a drill and opened a panel where they thought they could access the lock. That didn’t work.
After an hour and a half, the driver Micko decided the only solution was to take the van home (it was panelled inside and inaccessible) and cut off the van door with an angle grinder, weld on some new hinges and then drop over the sofas to us tomorrow.
It was now 10.30pm and Robert had only been back to work five half days last week and I was worried about him being out in the cold air (warfarrin thins the blood) – so I would agree to anything that would get him inside.
As Micko drove off towards Clondalkin I wondered would be every see our lovely red Leather Sofas again? I joked that I hope Micko isnt selling them tomorrow on www.donedeal.ie ?!
So we sit on cushions on the floor, or sit on beds waiting for dinner time to come and the sofas to arrive. Done Deal – would I still recommend it? Definately, but try getting a van driver more reliable than Del Boy next time.
