I worked with the head office of Gamestop in my previous life in Disney. They were professional, helpful and always full of ideas to give the gamers value, their tagline in all their advertising is ‘Power to the Players’.
Over the last few weeks Charlie has been talking of a Kinnect to go with his (actually ‘our’) Xbox. Normally when I hear this type of talk of new consoles and new release games, I can feel the headache come on. The tirade of ‘later’, ‘save your pocket money’, and just plain old ‘no’ seep into my brain.
But not this time. With my huge expansive career in the corporate gaming world – well okay, two years, I know a thing of two about gaming.
So last night when my son raised the ‘I want a Kinnect for my Xbox’ conversation I was ready for him. I told him if he wanted to trade in his games and his Wii console, we could get the Kinnect.
So we boxed up the Wii, the controllers, the motion sensor, and 13 Wii games, along with my ‘Brothers and Sisters’ box set (shameful I know!) and a few random DVD’s.
We were given €118!!! We bought a Xbox Kinnect (pre-loved) and two Kinnect games (also pre-loved). I asked how much we owed – opening the wallet, he said we did owe some money 85 cent! Yes I got him to repeat it ….85 cent!!!
Never, NEVER have I had such value and such a result from a shopping trip.
As everyone knows I am a MA student and broke (obligatory), I have to explain to everyone that Charlie tells we have a new Kinnect. I have explained to at least 6 people today, how the ‘Trade-in’ system works at Gamestop and judging by their reaction I think that is at least 6 more customers – ‘Power to the Players’ indeed!!
