I felt so positive after meeting Chris Binchy, that I stared to think about how best to write my book. Then I had a eureka moment – I would copy and paste from my blog into word and then I could see where needed to be edited, what needed to be added to and where there were somethings that were missing completely.
And do you know what I discovered? I have written 80 pages and they contain over 30,000 words!!! Can you believe that something I do, when I see something poignant, funny or frustrating – I just write about what I feel or see. And over eight months I have written 30,000 words.
I hope that I can edit and get the book off to agents in the next week. I have pushed all commitments aside and am focusing 100% on getting this out to someone.
If I get a rejection, well, I get a rejection. You learn nothing by success – so I am prepared to get rejected. The main achievement for me is I now have 80 pages of how I survived redundancy in 2011. If nothing else it is a funny, witty chronicle of my life this year. I can pick it up anytime, my kids can get an insight into who I was in 2011.
So it’s all positive really. I know some people deny ever writing a book for fear it doesn’t get published and they will feel stupid and like they have failed. Well that person is not me. I try to see the positive in each step, and that way if step 3 is a failure, well I have had success in step 1 and step 2 – so let’s try again at step 3. So again!!! I have written 80 pages and 30,000 words and that is step one success for me.
Great attitude, go for it! Best of luck!
Thanks Neeks, keep calm and carry on!
