Tomorrow I am meeting a real life author- and no he is not Maeve Binchy’s love child! He is the writer in residence in Dun Laoghaire Council. We used to live there and I never thought it was particularly arty until we moved out into the wilds of Kildare.
I mean I wonder how many councils in Ireland or the UK have a writer in residence?
I emailed him about his ‘meet the author’ sessions and I am meeting him in a library at 3pm on 3rd December.
I will have my proposal and synopsis with me. I suppose the main objective is to get an agent at this point. I have sent off my non-fiction proposal to The Lisa Richards agency, so fingers crossed with them.
I am no shrinking violet to I am ready to embrace the rejections!!! If/when I get rejections that will be one potential agent off my list.
So here goes tomorrow – get to see what a proper author thinks of my writing and my book!! Nervous….
Hi there, sounds exciting. How did you get on with him ? I would love to do something like this. Was it a helpful session ?
Lisa, absolutely! Firstly to hear a wonderful published, acclaimed author tell me I am a great writer. Secondly to get his opinion on structure for the book and lastly about help getting an afent. He was really helpful and full of ideas. I only had 30 mins with him, but I felt I had huge dose of positivity – that it is all going to come together.
So my advice would be – if you get a chance to meet a writer in that yupe of scenario – jump at it!
Thanks for your comment and please keep reading 🙂

It’s like you’re reading my mind! You appear to understand a lot about this, like you wrote the e-book in it or something. I believe that you simply could do with a few more to force the message house a bit, however other than that, this is wonderful blog. A great read. I’ll certainly be back.
