#53 writing a radio play

A year ago I struggled with Christmas delivery for the biggest toy shop in Ireland – I was under huge stress.

Would Disney video games be delivered on time? 60% of annual sales were shipped in Q1 you know.

Now I am recording a radio play. Not only recording, but writing, directing and staring in.

I am doing a few units in Radio Journalism and now I sit here on a sunday morning with a blank screen. But, I am confident – I have a few ideas I have been chewing over these last few days.

Now my acting pool is dear Robert and myself – no Grammys or Oscars here. But the story is the thing.

I have a Marantz home with me, batteries at the ready, I have the editing software downloaded, now I just need to write an 8 minute script.

That’s about 5-6 pages of dialogue – which I am confident about writing. Let me just say that again – I am confident about writing an 8 minute play.

Sometimes in life you can see success in days or in weeks. But other times – like now – you can only see success when you look back over months.

So here I am 8 months into redundancy saying I am confident about writing and recording a play – that is a huge positive, and a world away from shipping computer games in Q1.
