Okay, so sometimes I have to search with a torchlight and a magnifying glass to find the elusive positive in redundancy. Well not today! I am busy writing today, as always, but today, I am writing a 1400 word article for an Irish National Newspaper!!!
I know that was excessive use of the old exclamation mark – but if ever there was a justification for three of them – it is now.
I emailed a guy I am following on twitter, about who best to approach in his newspaper, and guess what, he mailed me back with the editor’s contact details.
That was on 5th August. Since then I have been procrastinating. what if she told me to get a real job, and stop playing at being a writer, because you are atrocious!
So last night, after watching a programme on 9/11 I just thought, life is too short. Worst she can say is no. So I didn’t write an article, but I pitched an idea of one. I wrote a funny, witty email and attached some excerpts from my blog.
AND SHE WROTE BACK TODAY SAYING
1200 to 1400 words and a high-resolution image of you please
So – lets focus on this HUGE positive. Listen, I may not get published, some far more interesting story could come along in the meantime – but today, right now, she said she wants my article and I will smile all day long at this huge positive of being redundant.
I talked about writing all my life, and got up the next day and put on a suit. Now redundancy has given me the opportunity through my MA in writing at University of Falmouth. My course pushed me to start a blog when I had to google to find out what a blog was!
Now I have been interviewed on radio and am submitting an article to a national newspaper! Corporate Sales – who needs it!
Well done Joannie im so proud of you
