Redundancy positive #20 Domestic Godess @Nigella_Lawson

My husband is delighed!  I am now officially a fan of @Nigella_Lawson.  I spent so many years burning cakes, ‘converting’ sponges into trifle or worse dumping them in the bin.  So a few months ago when a friend was downsizing she gave me The Domestic Godesss.

I viewed it suspiciously wondering if they could truly morph me into a Stepford Wife!  I soon learned that the food processor was Nigella’s friend.  I baked buns and they looked amazing.  My Daughter’s birthday was coming and I thought foolishly that I might try to bake her birthday cake MYSELF!!

Foolish?  Or just too much time post-redundancy?  I made a list and went shopping – I found sour cream which I had never even knew existed before.  I puchased full fat butter, posh chocolate, and real vanilla essence.  I did exactly what Nigella suggested, even down to buying the perfect size of two new cake tins.  The two layers of the cake emerged from the oven looking cautiously sucessful.

Next to the icing which was to go inside, on the top and down the sides – I was worried by the mere thought of this – but I again followed her instructions to the letter and the result was amazing!

Everyone, I mean, EVERYONE was sure I had bought the cake at a local bakery.  Even I, was checking my purse for receipts!  But its official Nigella has made a domestic goddess out of me – me?
