Is it a positive to watch TV? I never thought so until these last few days in Dublin. In fact I always viewed TV as a negative time-wasting experience. An experience that I only really got dug into to when I had small children and discovered the joys of #Richard & Judy (How I miss them!).
So it occurred to me yesterday as I watched O’bama (as he is now known in our house!) that there is a huge positive to watching TV for 8 hours in one sitting.
I’ve seen history being made, live in my living room. I paused him with the hurley stick while I defrosted a bit of meat for dinner. Fast forwarded him as the entire village of Moneygall waited for him. I rewound his speech in College Green at least three times. I was blessed not to be working and to be able to sit in front of the telly and watch history being made.
It reminded me of the 1984 Olympics when after I had finished revising for my history O’Level, I would join my Dad as we sat up til 3am watching the Olympics in California. I miss my dad in days like these when history is being made. So I try to think of our conversations and what he would say on historic days like this. We would have sat side by side on the sofa, him leaning forward hanging on every word, with the volume up full pelt. He would No doubt he would have said – there was more history made in Ireland in a week than in the last fifty years – and I would have agreed with him.
So fired up by O’bama – I feel a renewed rush of positivity – just when I wondered would the career change I hope for ever come? Will I ever pass the course? YES I CAN! Keep positive and keep going 🙂
